Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stressed at a government meeting on the fuel market that fuel supplies to the country's northern regions must be under strict oversight. Novak noted that the challenging supply conditions in the domestic market require greater attention from federal and regional authorities for these regions.
"Remote regions have objective transportation and infrastructure characteristics that must be taken into account when making decisions on fuel supplies," Novak said. "Under current conditions, all measures to provide the necessary resources to such regions must be under special oversight, and decisions must be taken as quickly as possible."
The meeting addressed the fuel needs of the northern regions in detail. Regional governors reported on the current situation in their markets, the volume of petroleum product stocks, logistics organization, shipment schedules, and the distribution of resources among remote settlements.
Novak had previously stated that fuel supply disruptions occurred in Russia this summer due to logistical changes. To improve the situation, the government had taken steps such as banning gasoline and diesel exports, providing tax incentives for fuel imports, and increasing domestic production.
