Russia has increased planned federal budget spending for 2026 by 1 trillion rubles. According to data from the Interfax news agency's Electronic Budget system, the spending estimate was raised from 44.07 trillion rubles to 45.11 trillion rubles.
The revenue estimate remained unchanged at 40.283 trillion rubles. This puts the planned budget deficit at 4.828 trillion rubles. The current budget law had projected a 2026 deficit of 3.786 trillion rubles, or 1.6% of GDP.
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced in early June that the 2026 budget parameters would be adjusted and the deficit would increase. Siluanov did not provide a specific figure at that time.
Meanwhile, the budget deficit for the first six months of the year reached 5.731 trillion rubles, or 2.5% of GDP, according to preliminary data. This figure shows that the annual planned deficit has already been exceeded.
Russia's budget spending has seen a significant increase recently, including investments in the defense industry.
