Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko criticized the European Union's handling of the migrant crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Grushko said the EU was sweeping real problems 'under the rug' and instead focusing on demonizing Russia and militarization.
"Moscow has long been offering cooperation to the EU in various fields," Grushko said, continuing: "Today, everything is subordinated to militarization, preparations for war with Russia, and the demonization of our country. They have tried to sweep these problems under the rug. But unfortunately for them, reality is tearing down the ideological and political doors and walls they have created, showing the EU where its real problems are."
On Thursday, thousands of Moroccan youths flocked to the Morocco-Spain border in Ceuta. Hundreds managed to enter Spanish territory, prompting authorities to deploy additional police, Civil Guard, and military units to the area. Ceuta Mayor Juan Jesús Vivas said some 60,000 people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta in a single day, and the number of migrants who died during crossing attempts reached 34.
