Ukraine has launched a legal challenge against the decision allowing Russian athletes to return to international competitions. Ukraine's National Olympic Committee has taken the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to temporarily restore the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Ukrainian side argues that the IOC Executive Board's decision on July 7 violates the Olympic Charter and CAS's established practices. The committee's official statement noted that the conditions that led to the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee's membership were not taken into account.
The statement said, "The Ukrainian Olympic Committee has filed an appeal with CAS requesting the annulment of the IOC decision." The appeal emphasizes that in 2024, CAS confirmed the legality of the ban on the Russian Olympic Committee.
The IOC's decision had recommended that all international federations lift restrictions on Russian athletes. However, some federations have already announced that their stance on Russian athletes will not change.
