The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that the full implementation of the plan to disarm Hamas in Gaza would constitute a constructive step toward lasting peace in the region.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Kallas welcomed the agreement brokered by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. She noted that a number of conditions must be met for the plan to be implemented, saying: "Full implementation of the Hamas disarmament plan will be a constructive step on the path to peace."

The EU High Representative stressed that success depends on the full commitment of all parties. "Verifying Hamas's compliance with the terms of the agreement will pose a serious challenge. Ultimately, Israel will also need to withdraw its troops from Gaza," Kallas said.

Noting that the European Union is ready to support the next steps, Kallas added that EU missions in the region are playing an important role in supporting efforts to build a Palestinian state.
