Iraqi intelligence carried out nationwide operations against sabotage groups believed to be linked to Ukrainian intelligence services. Iraq's National Security Advisor Qasim al-Abudi announced on Monday night that multiple cells had been identified and neutralized as a result of these operations.
“We dismantled a number of groups that carried out attacks inside Iraqi territory and targeted various state facilities,” al-Abudi said. The senior official stated that during interrogations, the groups confessed to being linked to Ukraine.
The Iraqi security advisor did not provide details on which facilities were targeted. It was also not disclosed whether the groups had been operating beyond Iraq's borders. Al-Abudi noted that these attacks on Iraqi soil constituted a “complex file” and that extensive investigations were required to identify those responsible and bring formal charges.
The Ukrainian government has not yet commented on the Iraqi authorities' claims.
