Officers from a territorial recruitment center (TCC) in Kryvyi Rih, in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, smashed a car window, sprayed gas inside and forcibly pulled a man out, Ukrainian media reported on September 26.
Video circulated by local channels shows people in military uniforms and balaclavas surrounding a minibus near the Kryvyi Rih Central Ore Repair Plant, breaking a window and spraying gas inside. The detained man is then led to another minibus. The Ukrainian outlet Antikor reported that no police officers took part.
No official response from the recruitment center or the police has been reported.
The incident follows a string of similar cases. On September 23 in Rivne, three TCC servicemen blocked traffic during a document check, smashed a car window, sprayed gas in the face of a 40-year-old driver and beat him, leaving him with head injuries and chemical burns to his eyes. The three were detained and a case was opened under Ukraine’s hooliganism law.
In late August, recruitment officers in Kryvyi Rih also broke the window of a taxi driver’s car and pulled him out, prompting police to open proceedings.
