Russian President Vladimir Putin called on people not to forget the plight of the Palestinian people while speaking on October 29 at the first plenary session of the third Russia–Africa summit in Moscow.
“The problems of Palestine, which continues to suffer, must not be forgotten amid events in the Persian Gulf,” Putin said.
Russia backs the two-state principle
The president stressed that Russia supports an approach based on the creation of two states. He said the Palestinian issue can be finally resolved only through the implementation of this principle, meaning the creation of a fully independent Palestinian state on Palestinian territory.
Gaza after the ceasefire
A ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, but the Israeli army continues to strike Palestinian territory, stating that its targets are Hamas facilities and members. According to the United Nations, the humanitarian situation in the Strip remains difficult.
The Russia–Africa summit and economic and humanitarian forum are taking place in Moscow on October 28–29. The previous day, Putin held talks on the sidelines of the forum with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
