Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of US independence. The message emphasized that the two countries, as the largest nuclear powers, bear special responsibility for global security and stability.
Putin noted that the signing of the US Declaration of Independence was not only the beginning of America's existence as a state but also a significant turning point in world history. He recalled that Russia at that time unconditionally supported the North American colonists' struggle for freedom against British rule.

Touching on the history of relations between the two countries, Putin said, 'We were allies in two world wars, together we saved humanity from the horror of Nazism, and then we played an important role in laying the foundations of the modern world order.' 'Today, Russia and the US, as the two largest nuclear powers, bear a special responsibility for ensuring security and stability on a global scale,' he added.
Putin expressed his belief that the establishment of constructive, equal, and mutually beneficial relations between Moscow and Washington is in the interest not only of the two peoples but of the entire world community.
The Russian leader concluded his message with the words, 'I wish you, Donald, and your loved ones health, well-being, and success, and all American citizens happiness and prosperity.'
