A telephone conversation took place on Monday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The call addressed Armenia's steps towards the European Union (EU) and trade issues between the two countries.
According to the Kremlin press service, Putin, referring to Armenia's EU accession process, stated that the country should hold a national referendum as soon as possible on whether to remain in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or join the EU. The Russian leader also reaffirmed his commitment to the decisions taken at the Eurasian Economic Summit held in Astana on 29 May 2026 and to the joint statement of the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
The Armenian government press service reported that Prime Minister Pashinyan raised the restrictions imposed on the export of Armenian-origin goods to the Russian market. Pashinyan stressed that these restrictions were contrary to bilateral agreements and EAEU provisions, and demanded that the necessary steps be taken to resolve the issue.
The Kremlin announced that the call was held at the initiative of the Armenian side.
