Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke at a joint press conference in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Tusk said that delivering a clear and unambiguous message on European unity and transatlantic relations is of great importance ahead of the planned NATO summit in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
The press conference was held following a meeting in Berlin of the leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also participated in the meeting online.
Stating that the future of Europe and the Western world depends on preserving European unity and transatlantic ties, Tusk emphasized that this message must be clearly conveyed before the Ankara summit.
Tusk noted that Poland will continue working to protect European unity throughout Ukraine's war with Russia, and stressed that his country will continue to defend transatlantic relations despite some politicians not fully appreciating the importance of these ties.
Tusk said they will work to ensure that Eastern flank countries, which are under direct threat due to Russia's aggressive policies, are represented at all international forums. He expressed that achieving success in the civilizational conflict with Russia would be difficult without Poland, the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, and Romania.
The Polish Prime Minister added that all countries must make greater efforts to strengthen European and national defense capabilities.
