The period of border checks by Poland, Germany and Lithuania has been extended by six months. The new implementation will begin on October 2, 2026, and continue through March 30, 2027.
In a written statement, Poland’s Ministry of the Interior and Administration said the checks had been introduced on July 7, 2025, to limit irregular migration. The ministry said the measures were being carried out in response to migration pressure described as being encouraged by Belarus.
Millions checked at the borders
Since the checks began, more than 4.5 million people and approximately 2.3 million vehicles have been inspected.

At the Lithuanian border, approximately 1,300 people were denied entry to Poland. More than 130 people were detained on suspicion of helping irregular border crossings.

At the German border, approximately 1,200 people were denied entry to Poland. About 118,000 police officers, soldiers and border guards served in the checks at the Lithuanian border. Approximately 211,000 personnel took part in the measures at the German border.
Poland cites security concerns
A decision published by Poland’s Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kervinyski, said the checks aimed to further limit irregular migration and strengthen the country’s security.
