Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said the West was waging a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine and seeking to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow.
In remarks on August 19, Yo Jong argued that the confrontational approach of the Western bloc in Europe had taken the armed conflict into a more serious phase.
Yo Jong warns of geopolitical crises
Yo Jong said the international environment was becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable, adding that this trend was intensifying geopolitical crises in different parts of the world.
She said these developments were causing serious concern in the international community as it sought peace and stability.
Putin's assessment
Russian President Vladimir Putin had also previously said that Ukraine and its allies in Europe were seeking to inflict a "strategic defeat" on Russia on the battlefield.
Putin had said this approach stemmed from a lack of objective information about the situation on the front.
