As the fuel shortage deepens in Russia's Irkutsk region, authorities have introduced new measures. In a written statement, Irkutsk Governor Igor Kobzev announced that a "high alert status" has been declared in the region and that additional restrictions will be implemented.
Kobzev stated that the primary goal is to mitigate the impact of the problem arising from insufficient fuel deliveries to the region and to ease congestion at stations. Emphasizing that each vehicle will be sold a maximum of 50 liters of fuel per day at Rosneft gas stations, the governor noted that other stations may set lower sales limits.
Kobzev also noted that the sale of fuel in canisters has been banned, and recommended that organizations not directly connected to the basic needs of the public switch to a remote working system.
Patrol teams to be deployed
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian National Guard will deploy patrols at fuel sales points. Kobzev reported that the teams will maintain public order in queues and prevent fuel sales that violate the measures in place.
Amid attacks by Ukrainian drones on oil refineries in Russia, which have taken numerous facilities offline for maintenance, the Russian government occasionally imposes sales and export restrictions to stabilize the fuel market. Restrictions on fuel sales are in effect in about 20 regions, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.
