Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his speech at the congress of the ruling United Russia party, harshly assessed the external pressures on his country. Putin stated that Russia is 'gnawed' and that attempts are being made to get rid of it as a factor that always stands in the way of evil in the world.
Putin alleged that the Kiev regime is retreating along the contact line and therefore is turning to open terrorist acts.
"When the West fails to defeat Russia on the battlefield, it tries to shake the political situation, but this also fails. The security of the country and citizens, the inviolability of Russia's borders will be ensured."
The Russian leader emphasized that some plans are adjusted according to the situation, but all strategic goals will be fully implemented.
"Russia stands firmly, declares its fundamental interests, and is ready to fight for them."
Putin also stated that the upcoming State Duma elections will be held on the set schedule and in full compliance with the laws. He said he would give the necessary instructions to ensure the security of the elections and protect them from 'attempts at external manipulation'.
