Ukraine continues to intensify its aerial strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure, announcing it carried out drone attacks on two oil refineries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the military struck the Slavyansk and Yaroslavl refineries with long-range drones overnight, with the facilities located approximately 300 kilometers and 700 kilometers from the front line, respectively.
"We continue our operations that weaken Russia's ability to wage this war," Zelensky said in a post on X. He stated that each attack means "fewer resources serving Russia's war machine."
Impact and casualties of the attacks
A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani in Russia's Krasnodar region. Krasnodar Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported on Telegram that one person died in the drone attack and several homes were damaged by debris.
Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev also stated on Telegram that the region was under attack by Ukrainian drones, announcing that exits from the city were temporarily closed.
According to Russia's Tass news agency, another person died in the Shebekinsky district following 64 Ukrainian drone attacks in the Belgorod region within 24 hours.
Russia's air defense claim
Kursk Regional Governor Alexander Khinshtein said Russia shot down a total of 117 enemy drones of various types. "Drones dropped explosive devices on our region seven times," Khinshtein stated.
Attacks on Crimea and energy infrastructure
Last week, Ukraine struck two oil facilities in Kerch, Crimea, and at Kavkaz port using long-range drones. Both facilities are used to transport fuel to Russian front lines. Ukraine also attacked power plants, leading to a suspension of fuel sales in Crimea.
Ukraine's large-scale drone campaign targeting Russian oil refineries and fuel storage facilities is affecting the country's economy, causing fuel shortages.
Putin's message on negotiations
As the war continues for over four years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow is ready to resume negotiations to end the conflict. However, Putin stated that these talks would be based on the negotiations held in Istanbul in 2022 and would include other points of disagreement, such as Russia's demand for Ukraine to surrender the Donbas region.
According to the RIA Novosti news agency, Russia's Defense Ministry announced that its military continues to advance in ground attacks against Ukraine west of Lyman. The ministry reported that 30 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, and four vehicles, five unmanned robotic systems, and nine drone control centers were destroyed.
