Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, set out his “theory of victory” at the Warsaw Security Forum on Oct. 12. “If someone is foolish enough to attack us, we will fight,” he said.

“Should the adversary choose to press the attack or commit his reserves, we will break the warfighting system engaged against us. This includes not just the attacking force itself, but anything and everything that supports, sustains, and controls that force,” he said, adding that NATO would ensure any attack on any ally “proves utterly futile.”

Grynkewich did not name Russia, but Reuters said the message was clearly directed at Moscow, which NATO’s 2022 Strategic Concept calls the alliance’s most significant threat. Russia warned last month it would use nuclear weapons if NATO tried to cut off Kaliningrad.
