SpaceX chief Elon Musk admitted on Saturday, October 24, that the company had deliberately restricted Starlink service in Ukraine. He said Ukrainian forces had violated the terms of service by using the system “for offensive drone strikes aimed at killing people.” “That loophole was closed last week,” Musk said.
Musk’s statement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said access to Starlink and the military Starshield system had been restored to their previous speed. The restrictions had disrupted the work of units on the front for more than a week, AP reported.

Mediaite reported that U.S. President Donald Trump initially said he did not know who had ordered the slowdown, but then called Musk and demanded that the restrictions be lifted.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara said Starlink was again operating reliably at speeds above 400 kilometers per hour. Ukraine’s access to the system also became an issue in 2022, when Musk disputed reports that communications had been cut off off the coast of Crimea.
