Russia announced that it would respond to Germany’s measures following the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) incident at Leipzig-Halle Airport. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described Berlin’s decisions as a step that would heighten tensions in bilateral relations.
Zakharova argued that Germany had not presented any serious evidence concerning the incident and claimed that the drone incident had been used as a pretext to take action against Russia.
Once again, Berlin has chosen to escalate tensions in bilateral relations on the basis of a fabricated pretext.
Zakharova also alleged that Germany was fueling the Ukraine crisis and involved in acts of terrorism targeting civilians, and said that the Russian House had long been a source of concern for Berlin. She stated that Moscow would respond to all decisions taken against Russia.
Peskov demands evidence for the accusations
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also said that the accusations linked to the incident at Leipzig-Halle Airport must be supported by evidence. Peskov said Germany had chosen to escalate tensions.
Berlin’s measures against Russia
The German government announced that the findings of the investigation into the discovery of a drone carrying explosives at Leipzig-Halle Airport pointed to Russia as responsible.
As part of the measures, Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn is scheduled to close as of September 18. The announced measures also include terminating the contract concerning the Russian House in Berlin, tightening entry checks for Russian citizens and increasing pressure on Russia’s so-called shadow fleet.
