In the first five months of the year, 27.2 thousand land parcels were inspected in the Moscow region. The regional administration reported that these inspections were carried out to see whether the land is being used in line with its designated purpose.
Aleksey Natarov, the official responsible for property relations in the region, said the inspections aim to ensure every piece of land is used correctly. Natarov stated that owners who use land outside its intended purpose could face serious economic risks, which may extend to seizure of the property.
According to officials, 102.2 thousand more properties are planned to be checked by the end of the year. Misuse of land can result in an increased cadastral value and the application of higher taxes.
In cases where agricultural land is left completely unused, the legislation allows, as a last resort, for compulsory seizure. The goal is to bring unused land back into the economy.
The inspections have been most intensive since the start of the year in the Volokolamsk municipal district, where 2.5 thousand parcels were examined. In the Shchyolkovo urban district, 1.5 thousand parcels were checked, and in the Pavlovo-Posad urban district, 1.4 thousand parcels were inspected.
Natarov also stressed that the effort is not solely for punitive purposes. Officials say detailed explanations and step-by-step recommendations are sent to owners where non-compliance is detected; this approach both increases legal awareness and contributes to the lawful and efficient use of the land.
