A Moscow court has imposed administrative fines on Twitch Interactive Inc. and Wikimedia Foundation Inc. under obligations imposed on foreign internet companies operating in Russia.
The court found both organizations guilty of repeatedly failing to fulfill the obligations. Under paragraph 3 of Article 13.49 of Russia’s Code of Administrative Offenses, Twitch was fined more than 41.8 million rubles, while Wikimedia Foundation was fined 10 million rubles.
Requirements imposed on foreign companies under Russian law
Russian law requires foreign internet companies operating in the country to maintain a branch or representative office. These companies must also create a form for receiving applications from citizens and register with Roskomnadzor.
