A Russian missile struck a densely built-up residential area of the village of Pisochyn in the Kharkiv district at about 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, hitting near apartment blocks and grocery stores, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office said. A fire broke out after the strike. The office released security camera footage showing the moment of the explosion.

Strike follows ‘energy ceasefire’ announcement

The attack came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an immediate “energy ceasefire.” That same evening, Russian forces attacked an energy facility on the outskirts of Kharkiv, and the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed a strike on Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 5.
In total, five people were killed and 45 injured in the Kharkiv region over the past day, according to Syniehubov. Overnight into Oct. 12, Russia attacked Ukraine with a Kh-59 missile and 121 drones, 89 of which were shot down or jammed, Ukraine’s Air Force said. In the morning, a drone hit a high-rise apartment building in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district.
A video also spread online showing a young woman filming herself on her phone as a powerful explosion goes off nearby. It could not be independently verified where and when the footage was recorded or whether it is linked to the strike on Pisochyn.
