The Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences has identified a new record in the country's Central Federal District. Lake Beloye, located in the Ryazan region, reached a depth of 54 meters in measurements, making it the deepest lake in the region.
The statement from the institute said: "Scientists from the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology made a discovery in the depths of Lake Beloye in the Ryazan region. According to the research results, this lake was identified as the deepest lake in Russia's Central Federal District, and its bottom descends to 54 meters below the water level."
This new discovery surpasses the record of Lake Glubokoye in the Moscow region, previously known as the deepest lake in the area with a depth of 31 meters.
In addition to hydrographic measurements, the researchers also conducted hydrological drilling and hydrochemical monitoring. The scientists emphasized that the water mixing that occurs in spring acts as a natural filter, and this is of great importance for both scientific research and ecological monitoring.
The team plans to continue its work by installing the first hydrological equipment in the lake at the beginning of autumn.
