Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to US President Donald Trump's statement that he could grant Ukraine a production license for Patriot air defense systems. Peskov said that all relevant agencies and Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin know very well what needs to be done to protect Russia's national interests, and that everything necessary is being done.
In his assessment on Wednesday, Trump had suggested that Ukraine could quickly produce Patriot interceptor missiles if it received the details of the production process.
Peskov said, "All our relevant units and our Commander-in-Chief know very well what needs to be done. Believe me, everything necessary is being done to protect our interests."
Russia argues that weapons supplies to Ukraine hinder the resolution of the conflict and amount to 'playing with fire' by dragging NATO countries into direct hot conflict. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that any cargo carrying weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin has stated that the West's arming of Ukraine does not contribute to negotiations and will have negative consequences.
