Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said there was a possibility of another meeting between Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. Peskov said the two leaders had emphasized during phone calls that they were ready to meet again at a later stage.
However, no concrete agreement has yet been reached on a possible new meeting between Putin and Trump. No details have been shared about the date or agenda of the meeting.
Prospect of a Putin-Zelenskyy meeting
Peskov said the Kremlin's position on a possible meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had not changed. Peskov said Zelenskyy could travel to Moscow if he requested it and would be given security guarantees.
The Kremlin spokesperson also said Zelenskyy knew the decisions regarding the steps he needed to take.
Basis for negotiations on Ukraine
Assessing efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Peskov said Moscow did not see the necessary conditions for moving to peace negotiations at the current stage. He added that Russia had not closed the door to peace talks.
Peskov also claimed that European countries were seeking new funds to finance Ukraine's weapons purchases. He further argued that the authorities in Kyiv were continuing actions he described as "terrorist activity."
Criticism of the United Kingdom and European countries
Assessing the United Kingdom's decision to establish a special center to combat Russian disinformation, Peskov claimed that London was fueling anti-Russian sentiment. He said Germany, France and some other European countries were pursuing a similar policy.
Peskov said this approach did not contribute to reducing tensions on the European continent or easing the conflict. The Kremlin spokesperson described the policy as short-sighted.
Future of Russia's bases in Syria
Peskov also responded to a question about the future of Russia's bases in Syria. He said contacts with the Syrian side were continuing and that they were satisfied with the way the talks were being conducted.
He said they hoped the sides would develop a common understanding on difficult issues.
