Russian President Vladimir Putin gave detailed information about the special military operation in Ukraine during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Omsk. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Putin provided Tokayev with a comprehensive briefing on the operation.
Peskov said, "Of course he responded. He told him everything about the special military operation in detail."
Kyiv's stance blocks ceasefire
The Kremlin spokesperson commented on the Kazakh leader’s proposal to freeze the conflict and return to the "Istanbul formula 2.0." Peskov stressed that freezing the conflict is impossible due to the current position of the Kyiv administration.
However, Peskov said that Ukraine is the obstacle to peace, adding, "If the Kyiv regime makes the appropriate decisions, all of this can stop by the end of today." The spokesperson added that the necessary conditions for a ceasefire were set out by the Russian Foreign Ministry two years ago and those conditions still apply.
Tokayev conveys signals from the West
For his part, Kazakh President Tokayev noted during the meeting that he had received "many signals" from Europe and the United States regarding the current state of the conflict. Tokayev stressed that the conflict is not a civil war but an interstate dispute.
"We have always respected the Ukrainian people, their culture and their language. The nature of this conflict is not even fully clear to us," Tokayev said, adding that Putin displayed maximum diplomatic flexibility during the Anchorage meeting in Alaska. Tokayev noted that significant results were achieved in the Istanbul negotiations and that progress toward lasting peace could be made with guarantees from major powers, including Russia.
