Berlin announced that it would not change its sanctions policy toward Moscow despite Washington's latest decision on Russian diesel shipments. The government said support for Ukraine would continue and efforts to find a diplomatic solution would go on.
Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said the federal government had taken note of Donald Trump's decision concerning Russian diesel shipments. Kornelius said there had been no change in Germany's position on sanctions against Russia.

Kornelius said Germany would adhere to its existing sanctions decisions and announced that Berlin was working with its European partners on new sanctions. He added that Germany's support for Ukraine had not changed.
The government said efforts to find diplomatic solutions to problems involving Russia would continue. It also stressed that Germany would not back down from its support for Ukraine.
Trump's decision on Russian fuel
Donald Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel to world markets. Trump also announced that his administration had temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian fuel aimed at reducing Moscow's war revenues.
The price of diesel used in agriculture, home heating and transportation approached record levels. The increase posed a political risk for Republicans ahead of the congressional elections scheduled for November 3.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz had reiterated earlier that Germany would not reduce its support for Ukraine after his visit to Kyiv last weekend. Germany was described as Ukraine's largest supporter in Europe.
