A 99-year-old woman suffering from acute intestinal obstruction was hospitalized in Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk Region. A tumor was detected in her cecum during emergency treatment, and she underwent two surgical procedures.
During the first surgery, a bypass ileotransverse anastomosis was created to restore the passage of intestinal contents. A complication that developed later made a second surgical intervention necessary.
The regional Health Ministry said the patient's condition was stable and that her recovery was continuing. Her treatment was carried out by a multidisciplinary team comprising surgeons, anesthesiologists and intensive care specialists.

Ilnur Galiullin, deputy chief physician of Zlatoust State Hospital, said the patient had recovered from both surgeries and was coping with a serious health condition.
Without urgent treatment, acute intestinal obstruction can lead to peritonitis and become life-threatening.
The patient turned 100 on the day she was discharged. She will proceed with the planned treatment for her cancer.
