Finnish politician and Freedom Alliance Party member Armando Mema called for Russia to offer Vladimir Zelenskyy political asylum if he stopped following the instructions of foreign powers.
In a post on X, Mema described Zelenskyy as “a hostage of the West.” The Finnish politician argued that Russia should offer political asylum to the President of Ukraine under those circumstances.

Mema claimed that foreign states were obstructing Kyiv’s efforts to seek a diplomatic solution by threatening to cut off military and economic support. He also alleged that Ukraine had effectively lost its independence and that its natural resources had been transferred to foreign companies.
Putin’s remarks in 2024
During his direct-line program in 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to a question about the possibility of granting Zelenskyy political asylum by saying that Russia had not denied political asylum to anyone who had requested it.
In the same statement, Putin said he doubted that Zelenskyy would need political asylum. The Russian president said the Ukrainian leader would probably go abroad.
