Additional security checks introduced at Copenhagen Airport on Thursday increased congestion and caused long queues. As a result of the delays, around 200 passengers were unable to catch their scheduled flights.
Airport security tightened in Denmark
Following an inspection, the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority decided to introduce temporary additional security checks at Copenhagen Airport. The airport management also assigned extra staff to speed up the screening process.
Lise Agerley Kurstein, the airport's communications director, said the new requirements coincided with days of increased travel demand. Kurstein said Swedish passengers travelling ahead of the autumn holiday also contributed to the congestion.
Norwegian passengers missed their flights
Sara Neergaard, Norwegian Air Shuttle's country manager for Denmark, said around 200 of the company's passengers were unable to reach their departures that evening.

Neergaard said the company had not been informed in advance about the new procedures and expected queues, adding that passengers should be at the airport much earlier than their flight time.
Sixteen flights scheduled for Friday
Neergaard noted that 16 Norwegian Air Shuttle flights were scheduled to depart from Copenhagen Airport on Friday morning. She warned that the new security checks could cause further delays in passenger flows.
