The European Union will allocate another €3.3 billion to Ukraine to strengthen its defense capabilities.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the funds would be used to purchase missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Ukraine will receive €3.3 billion
Von der Leyen said the European Union would transfer €3.3 billion to Ukraine on September 18.
The funds are planned for the purchase of missiles and drones needed by Ukraine.

Funding under the €90 billion program
The new payment is being made under the €90 billion Ukraine support program, which covers 2026 and 2027.
The program provides funding both for Ukraine's budgetary needs and for measures aimed at strengthening its defense capabilities.
The European Union is allocating a significant share of the program's funds to support Ukraine's defense industry and purchase military equipment.
Von der Leyen and Zelenskyy's conversation
The statement was made after Ursula von der Leyen's telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The two sides discussed funding and the further strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities.
Zelenskyy described the conversation with the European Commission president as “very productive.”
Air defense remains a priority

In recent months, the European Commission has also increased funding for programs related to Ukraine's air and missile defense.
The funds are being used for air defense and missile defense systems, ammunition, unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic warfare equipment.
The European Union is also continuing its cooperation with Ukraine on the development of European defense technologies and air and missile defense systems.
