The European Union responded to the latest Russian attacks near the Ukraine-Poland border. In a written statement on Sunday, European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni strongly condemned the attacks.
El Anouni said the attacks included one targeting a passenger train. Developments involving the train followed reports that a private charter train reportedly carrying EU officials and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had been evacuated.
Reports of the train evacuation
Der Spiegel reported that a drone attack took place on Sunday near a train traveling from Kyiv to Poland. The newspaper reported that the train, which was said to be carrying officials from European countries as well as Boris Johnson, was evacuated after the attack.
Support for Ukraine’s air defense
El Anouni recalled that the European Union had approved €6.1 billion in support for Ukraine’s air and missile defense.
El Anouni said the European Union would continue supporting Ukraine’s right to defend itself and reiterated its condemnation of the Russian attacks.
