A failure in the electricity grid led to the cancellation of scheduled outage plans in some areas on Kyiv’s right bank and the start of emergency power cuts.
Ukraine’s energy company DTEK announced that the measure had also been extended to the Obukhiv, Fastiv and Bucha districts of Kyiv region. The company announced the outages in these districts approximately 20 minutes after its initial notice.
Transport and infrastructure in Kyiv had previously been disrupted
Power outages in the capital throughout the autumn disrupted metro services and surface routes used by electric public transport vehicles on multiple occasions. The operating hours of water networks and sewage systems were also restricted because of the outages.

Long-lasting power outages were also experienced in various regions of Ukraine. Outages were reported in several areas, particularly the Odesa, Vinnytsia, Volyn and Kharkiv regions.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine’s defence minister, recommended purchasing generators and batteries ahead of winter, as well as stockpiling petrol.
