SpaceX owner Elon Musk said it is time for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to leave office. “And so the slaughter continues … Time for Zelensky to go,” Musk wrote.
It was Musk’s second such remark in a matter of days. After U.S. President Donald Trump said on Oct. 10 that Zelensky could have ended the war many times and should hold elections, Musk backed him: “I agree, it’s time for Ukraine to find a new leader.”

Zelensky’s presidential term formally expired on May 20, 2024. Kyiv has not held elections, citing martial law.
Starlink dispute
Musk’s comments came amid a row over satellite communications. Ukraine has reported restrictions on military Starlink services that its forces rely on for frontline communications and drone operations. Ukrainian officials earlier said some drone missions were disrupted after terminals were limited at speeds above 160 kilometers per hour.

On Oct. 14, Musk said responsibility for any disruption lay with the U.S. government, arguing that the military Starshield system, unlike the commercial Starlink network, is owned and controlled by Washington. Zelensky, for his part, called on Musk to restore the service.
Musk’s remarks came after former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said lifting the speed limit imposed on Starshield was critical for Ukraine’s defense. Musk also said Starlink services are intended for civilian and defensive purposes and cannot be used in offensive military operations.
Relations between Kyiv and Washington have also been strained since Trump announced a diesel supply deal with Russia. Asked whether he felt “betrayed,” Zelensky said he did.
