Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said he was tired of Muslims being humiliated simply because they are Muslim. The 80-year-old politician spoke on October 21 at Koinonia Worship Center in Hollywood, Florida, where he endorsed Democratic candidate for governor David Jolly.
Clinton said he first heard about the verse from his daughter, who read the Quran from beginning to end at age 15. He paraphrased it this way: God created people differently not so that they would despise one another, but so that they would get to know one another and learn from one another.
Clinton's remarks echo verse 13 of Surah Al-Hujurat, which says that people were created as nations and tribes so that they might know one another.
“There are bad people in every faith because we are all imperfect,” Clinton said, adding that he was tired of religious wars and culture wars.
