Belarus’s KGB said Thursday that it had detained a group allegedly preparing to carry out sabotage against a “strategic facility” in Russia.
According to Belarus’s security agency, the plot was halted at the preparation stage. The KGB alleged that the operation was coordinated from neighboring Ukraine.
Materials were to be transported through Belarus
The statement said Belarus was planned as a transit route for delivering drones, communications equipment and other materials to those who would carry out the operation in Russia.
The KGB did not disclose the identities of the people it said had been detained or the date of their detention. It also did not name the Russian facility allegedly targeted.
Coordination with Russian law enforcement
Belarus’s KGB said it was coordinating with Russian law enforcement agencies to identify any other possible suspects. Russia did not immediately comment on the statement.
Belarus, Russia’s closest ally, had allowed Russian forces to use its territory as a staging ground before Russia’s attempted invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
