Azerbaijan has called for an end to the diplomatic tensions in its relations with France. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ayhan Hajizada responded to remarks made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot at an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development event.
In a statement, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said Hajizada had strongly condemned Barrot’s remarks. The Azerbaijani spokesperson said the remarks showed that France was still unwilling to abandon its confrontational rhetoric in its relations with Azerbaijan.

Baku responds to accusations over New Caledonia
Hajizada described as completely baseless the accusations that Azerbaijan was interfering in the struggle for the rights of people living in New Caledonia and other French overseas territories.
The Azerbaijani spokesperson argued that attempts to portray parties with differing views as instruments of external interference in developments in France’s overseas territories were aimed at overshadowing the will and concerns of the people living in those regions.

Baku calls for mutual respect
Hajizada said it would be more appropriate for French officials to focus on applying the principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law consistently in their own policies.
The Azerbaijani spokesperson called on France to end its baseless accusations against Azerbaijan. Hajizada also called for adherence to the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs in international relations.
