Reciprocal attacks continued in different parts of Ukraine and Russia as a local ceasefire was announced in occupied Oleshky in southern Ukraine. The ceasefire was intended to facilitate aid deliveries and evacuations for civilians facing shortages of food and medicine in the frontline city.
The US administration announced the ceasefire last week. Ukraine and Russia announced on Tuesday that the arrangement around Oleshky had begun.
Passage for aid convoys in Kherson
US First Lady Melania Trump said the ceasefire area had been expanded beyond Oleshky to cover the Kherson region, ensuring safe passage for humanitarian aid convoys.
In a statement, Melania Trump said the arrangement had begun two days earlier than planned. Trump said the decision was made to protect civilians and ensure the delivery of critical humanitarian aid.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's parliamentary commissioner for human rights and head of Kyiv's negotiating delegation, announced that Ukraine was observing the ceasefire. Russia's Defense Ministry said it had halted bombardments in the Kherson region as part of preparations for the ceasefire around Oleshky.

Attacks continued in different parts of Russia and Ukraine
Despite the announcement of the local ceasefire around Oleshky, reciprocal attacks were carried out in different parts of the two countries overnight.
Yegor Kovalchuk, governor of Russia's western Bryansk region, said two people were killed and at least six were injured in attacks by Ukrainian drones. Kovalchuk said the first person was killed by an explosive dropped from a drone, while a 67-year-old man was later killed in the same area.
Officials in the Belgorod region said a woman had been killed and seven people injured over the previous 24 hours. Russia's Defense Ministry also announced that 222 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted over Russia and annexed Crimea between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
At least one person was killed and 15 people were injured in a missile attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, including students staying in a dormitory. Russian overnight attacks also caused deaths and injuries in the cities of Kharkiv and Pavlohrad.
Officials appointed by the Kremlin in the partly Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region said a Ukrainian drone had struck an intercity passenger bus. According to the officials, one person was killed and 30 were injured.
