Saudi news channel Al Arabiya reported that the United States has agreed to release $3 billion in frozen Iranian assets. The decision was reached during technical talks between the two countries in the Qatari capital Doha.
The talks covered technical topics including Iran's nuclear program, diplomacy, and the fate of frozen funds, Al Arabiya noted. Qatar and Pakistan mediated the process, with contacts continuing indirectly.
The Washington administration, however, rejected assessments that the funds would be released unconditionally. A US official stressed that the process is performance-based and no resources will be transferred until Iran fulfills its commitments.
The issue of frozen assets stands out as one of the most contentious topics in the ceasefire and diplomacy process between the US and Iran. It remains uncertain whether the parties will reach a final agreement in this process of limited steps.
