Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said about 350 rescue workers were continuing their operations in Kyiv and the Kyiv region after the attacks. Zelenskyy said efforts were under way to repair damage in many Ukrainian cities and settlements dating back to the previous evening.
Zelenskyy said decisions on new weapons deliveries had a direct impact on the number of casualties in the attacks. He said Russia planned its attacks to inflict the greatest possible harm on people and that casualties increased when air defense systems were insufficient.
Evacuations carried out in Kyiv and surrounding areas
Zelenskyy said the attacks involved numerous unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic missiles, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure facilities.
Zelenskyy said a five-story residential building in Boryspil, in the Kyiv region, was damaged and that 50 people were evacuated from the building. He said the necessary teams were working in the area and that some business facilities had also been affected by the attacks.
According to Zelenskyy’s statement, four people were killed and 13 injured in Boryspil.
Power supply being restored in Odesa
Zelenskyy said Odesa and the Odesa region had been attacked with guided aerial bombs and unmanned aerial vehicles since the previous evening, leaving thousands of families without electricity. He said work to restore the power supply was continuing.
Zelenskyy also alleged that a crossing point on the Romanian border and export infrastructure had been deliberately damaged.
Seven killed at railway depot in Kyiv
Zelenskyy said seven people were killed in an attack on a railway depot in Kyiv. He added that the Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions had also been affected by the attacks.
Zelenskyy said the total death toll was 12 and that one of those killed was an Indian national. He added that dozens of people had been injured.
Call for more missile defense support in the autumn
Zelenskyy thanked Ukraine’s partners for helping the country develop its missile defense capabilities. He said support was continuing through the PURL mechanism and bilateral deliveries, adding that increasing this assistance in the autumn was critically important.
Zelenskyy said the casualties in the attacks were directly linked to each new aid package and thanked those contributing to Ukraine’s ability to increase its resilience against attacks.
