Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had approved the implementation of new long-range operations in response to Russia's attacks on Ukraine.
In a statement posted on X on Saturday, Sept. 19, Zelenskyy said he had heard reports from Defense Minister Yevhenii Hmara and Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi. He said decisions had been prepared to update management approaches and the system for responding to threats as part of changes in the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Leadership and volunteer arrangements in the Ukrainian army
The statement said that expanding successful methods used by combat brigades and effective brigade support units as widely as possible was a priority. Zelenskyy said the experience gained by Ukraine's Defense Forces needed to be shared among commanders at all levels.
The meeting also reviewed legal regulations and procedures for accepting foreign volunteers seeking to serve in the Ukrainian army.
Long-range capabilities to be expanded
Zelenskyy said he had approved the conduct of new long-range operations in response to Russia's attacks. Saying that Ukraine was preparing to expand its long-range strike capabilities, Zelenskyy added that the next priorities for active operations on the front had also been identified.
Methods developed against jet-powered drones
The Ukrainian president announced that several methods had been developed to shoot down Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. Zelenskyy said these methods had proved effective under real combat conditions and that work was continuing to expand their use, ensure consistent effectiveness against targets and increase production.
Zelenskyy also said that Oleksandr Poklad, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, had previously announced that the military counterintelligence unit had achieved good results in its work against jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russia and Ukraine have increased attacks in recent months on each other's logistics centers, ports and energy infrastructure. Both sides deny accusations of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and maintain that their attacks are directed at military targets or facilities linked to military activities.
