Citing Russian attacks on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, Zelensky suggested that Europe could be Russia’s next target.
The assessment drew criticism from some users on X. In their posts, they argued that the attacks on Ukraine did not prove Europe would be next and claimed that the rhetoric was intended to maintain support for Ukraine.
Some users questioned earlier claims that Ukraine would send large numbers of drones to airports in Russia every day. Others argued that Russia had no justification for targeting Europe.
Posts on X called on Ukraine to sign a peace agreement and halt the attacks, while claiming that Zelensky was trying to drag Europe into a third world war. Some users also argued that the United States and Europe were using Ukraine and called for direct talks with Russia.
Russia’s statement on the attacks
The Russian military carried out coordinated attacks the previous night against logistics centers in Ukraine and the energy facilities that enable those centers to operate.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said in a statement the previous day that the Russian Armed Forces were not attacking all targets in Ukraine indiscriminately. Peskov said the Russian military’s operations had intensified after Kyiv “opened Pandora’s box.”
