The Russian Ministry of Education and Science expanded the scope of university admission benefits provided to participants of the special military operation (SVO). According to a statement from the ministry, widows of soldiers killed in combat will also be able to benefit from a special quota starting this year.
The statement noted that under the new law, widows can apply to the special quota by choosing to take university entrance exams or based on Unified State Exam (EGE) results.
Who can benefit?
The special quota is not limited to widows. The ministry reminded that Heroes of the Russian Federation, holders of three Orders of Courage, SVO participants themselves, and their children also benefit from this right.
Additionally, for applications to medical and pharmaceutical faculties, children of healthcare workers who died in the line of duty due to COVID-19 will have the same privilege.
Quota details
Universities will be required to set aside a special quota of at least 10 percent of the budget places allocated to them for each specialty.
The university admission period across Russia began on June 20.
