The White Flower Day event, continuing the Romanov dynasty's centuries-old charity tradition, will be held in Alapayevsk, Russia. The Elisavetinsko-Sergiyevskoye Enlightenment Society Foundation (ESPO) is reviving the tradition of mercy with its event on July 17.
The foundation announced that the program will begin at 11:30 local time (09:30 Moscow time) at the St. Elizabeth Monastery, where prayers will be offered for the start of all charitable works.
Following the prayers, a ceremonial procession will march from the Romanov Dynasty Museum "Alapayevsk City Napolnaya School" to Alapayevsk Cathedral Square, home to the Holy Trinity Cathedral. A charity bazaar will be set up at the cathedral.
On July 18, the foundation delegation will join the commemoration of the Alapayevsk martyrs. A liturgy will be held at the Alapayevsk Monastery of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church, where the martyrs died, followed by prayers at the St. Elizabeth Convent.
The Alapayevsk martyrs include members of the Romanov family, such as Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, who were shot near Alapayevsk on the night of July 18, 1918.
The White Flower Day event carries on the traditions of mercy and charity initiated by members of the Romanov dynasty over a century ago. ESPO, under the leadership of Anna Gromova, Chair of the Foundation's Supervisory Board, plays a leading role in reviving and organizing this tradition in Russia.
