Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy attended the launch in Tashkent of the Uzbek translation of “The Intellectual World of al-Maturidi” as Uzbekistan marked the 35th anniversary of its independence. Uzbek Culture Minister Ozodbek Nazarbekov joined the event at the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature.
Imam Abu Mansur al-Maturidi, an Islamic scholar from Samarkand, is known as the founder of the Maturidi school, one of the two main schools of Sunni theology.
The book was translated under Türkiye’s TEDA translation support program. Ersoy said the program has so far supported the translation of 4,832 works into 70 languages in 101 countries, including the translation and publication of 25 works in Uzbekistan.
During his visit, Ersoy toured the Museum of Islamic Civilization and held two meetings with Nazarbekov, discussing the protection of shared cultural heritage, restoration and archaeology, and cooperation from the performing arts to cinema.
The Turkish ministry’s General Directorate of Fine Arts and the Uzbekistan Philharmonic Orchestra signed a memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation. “We continue to build a living bridge between great works created centuries ago and the cultural production of our time,” Ersoy said.
