Foreign ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held an informal meeting of the organization’s Council of Foreign Ministers in New York on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly. The meeting was hosted by Azerbaijan, which holds the OTS chairmanship.
It brought together representatives of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, observer states Turkmenistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and the OTS secretary-general. Türkiye was represented by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Azerbaijan by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
The ministers discussed preparations for the 13th OTS Summit, to be hosted by Türkiye in Ankara on Oct. 29-30, as well as global and regional developments concerning the Turkic world.

Fidan stressed the importance of Turkic states acting with a shared vision and coordinating closely in responding to regional and global challenges, and outlined Türkiye’s vision for increasing the OTS’ effectiveness and visibility on the international stage.
The ministers adopted a joint statement calling for the OTS to secure observer status at the UN General Assembly and to strengthen institutional ties with international and regional actors. It was the fourth informal meeting of OTS foreign ministers in 2026.
