The Moscow Turkish Women’s Organization (MTKO) began its new working term with an opening dinner held on September 16, 2026. The meeting reviewed the clubs’ plans and addressed activities aimed at strengthening solidarity and joint creative work among members.
MTKO Chair Gökçen Şahin said that social and cultural events bringing women together would be expanded in the new term. Şahin said the term would not simply mean a new schedule of events, but would also provide a common platform for members to meet, build friendships, share experiences and strengthen mutual solidarity.
Children’s and women’s initiatives expand
The organization’s new-term plans focus on projects related to culture, the arts, children and women. Activities by the Book, Mother-Child, Travel, Handicrafts and Psychology Talks clubs are being reassessed, with the aim of supporting communication and joint creative work among members with different interests.
The work of the April 23 team was also discussed at the opening event. The April 23 children’s festivals previously organized by the MTKO, social activities for children, Turkish-language and cultural programs, Republic Day balls and aid initiatives have established the place of children and families in the organization’s activities.
MTKO has operated in Moscow since 1995
Founded in 1995 to bring together Turkish women living in Moscow, the MTKO has over time conducted activities ranging from solidarity among women to helping children maintain their ties to the Turkish language and culture, providing social support and promoting cultural interaction.
The organization’s history includes a ball held in 2006 to raise aid for children with leukemia and the April 23 Children’s Festival held in Moscow in 2011. Support for the children’s club and Turkish-language education was highlighted at the 2014 Republic Day Ball. The MTKO also carried out joint projects with the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Moscow in 2024 and with the Moscow Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Cultural Center in 2025.
The new term is planned to take shape around women’s solidarity, cultural activities and work for children. The exact dates and scope of the events, as well as the clubs’ schedules, will be clarified in forthcoming announcements.
