Ukrainian soldier Ruslan, who lost both arms and both legs, is learning to operate unmanned systems using a special controller operated with his chin. ABC News reported on his story.
Wounded in a drone strike in 2024
ABC News reported that in 2024, Ruslan was caught in a Russian drone strike near the settlement of New York in Donetsk region and suffered multiple shrapnel wounds, resulting in the loss of his arms and legs.
Instructors developed the controller
After treatment, Ruslan began training at a center that tests new military technologies. Instructors developed a special controller for him that allows him to operate equipment using his chin. According to instructor Duffy, Ruslan is already a UAV pilot, is learning to operate ground robotic systems and can carry out individual logistics tasks.
Ukraine’s army is increasingly using ground robotic systems to deliver supplies, evacuate the wounded and perform other tasks on the front line, where movement by people has become extremely dangerous because of the widespread use of drones.
