The UK Ministry of Defence said its policy of supporting Kyiv remained unchanged after Russia warned London over its military assistance to Ukraine.
A ministry spokesperson said the UK would continue to stand with Ukraine and provide the equipment it needs to defend itself. The spokesperson said Moscow should have no doubt about the government’s stance toward Russia and its allies or its determination in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
The UK stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, and we are determined to provide Ukraine with the equipment it needs to defend itself.
The statement came a day after Russia’s embassy in London warned that the UK’s military support for Ukraine would have consequences. The embassy argued that increasing London’s involvement in the conflict and its support for Kyiv would lead to a more serious response.
Russia’s embassy in London also said the UK’s actions would inevitably have consequences and that London would have to respond to them. The statement also raised reports that Ukraine had used British-supplied unmanned aerial vehicles in attacks against Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Andy Burnham at the end of last month. Burnham, the new British prime minister who replaced Keir Starmer, was the first foreign leader to meet Zelenskyy and said support for Kyiv would continue.
