U.S. President Donald Trump described CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow this week as relatively routine and rejected security claims surrounding the trip.
Trump responded “None of the above” when political commentator Glenn Beck asked whether Russia was preparing for a possible attack. Describing Ratcliffe as “a great person,” Trump said the CIA director had not gone to Moscow to test the resolve of NATO allies or because of a plan to attack the United Kingdom.
Asked about the visit’s possible outcome, Trump said, “Something could come of it. We are working very hard to end the war.” The Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
Trump also maintained that Moscow and Kyiv appeared ready for a compromise. The U.S. president said both sides wanted to end the conflict at this stage.
The Kremlin confirmed that Ratcliffe held contacts among security agencies in Moscow on Tuesday. The visit was the first by a CIA director to Moscow since 2021.
